Captions, playback fallbacks, and client sign-off alerts
This week — captions on your deliverables, playback fallbacks for when a corporate firewall blocks the stream, a real audio player, and sign-off alerts.
Four changes this week, all in the part of Studioscope where a client is actually watching a cut, listening to a mix, or signing something.
Captions on your deliverables
Upload an .srt next to a cut and it now shows up as captions on the player. Working on a podcast or a social video, you usually need those captions to say exactly what the client wants — they can fix a misspelt name or a product themselves, then you download the track and drop it back into your editing program.
Playback fallbacks when a firewall blocks the stream
We've had some corporate clients whose firewalls block video streams, so they open a cut, press play, and get nothing. Every video still streams at full resolution; alongside it a small proxy is generated, and playback now falls back to that proxy automatically when the stream can't start, with an actual error message and a Retry button.
Chrome had also been stuck playing every video at the lowest quality regardless of connection; that's fixed, and the proxies for screen recordings and other low-motion footage are smaller now too.
Audio deliverables get a real player
A voiceover, a music cue, or a podcast episode used to hit "no preview available for this file type" — you'd have to download it just to listen. It now gets a proper player with a waveform. Hovering over a video's timeline also now shows a thumbnail of the frame under your cursor.
A notification and email when a client signs off
You get a notification and an email when a client approves a deliverable, asks for changes, or signs a scope, from the Review tab. Signing as the studio uses the same draw-or-type signature panel a client sees, instead of stamping a placeholder name, and the finished PDF now shows both signatures properly. Invoicing is clearer too — the form says exactly what happens when you mark an invoice as issued, and shows your payment details on file before you save.
Also this week
A privacy notice is now reachable from inside the app — a studio's own if they've set one, ours by default. A studio's custom domain no longer shows Studioscope's public marketing pages to a client, clients can no longer see the full project roster, and a handful of playback, planning-board, and file-preview bugs got fixed along the way. Full list on the changelog.
